“IF YE ARE PREPARED YE SHALL NOT FEAR” – D&C 38:30
Let’s face it ~ Life is unpredictable! A wise person is prepared not only for what is known but also for the unknown. Surely we would all make more preparations if we knew what was coming.

What is Emergency Preparedness?

Emergency preparedness is a state of readiness defined as continuous planning, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, evaluating, and taking corrective action to ensure you have the necessary provisions in the event of an emergency.

The truth is that no one knows what the future holds, therefore, it is wise to prepare for any disaster that might befall us. It doesn’t mean that we have to invest thousands of dollars because we aren’t going for luxury – we are going for survival. Consider the recent disasters that have occurred in the US in the last few years. In many instances, having emergency supplies saves lives while people wait for help.

We should think of what is needed should a catastrophe shut down our basic utilities for days, a few weeks, or even longer. So, if this were to happen to you would your family survive? Even though it’s highly uncomfortable, a person can go without food for a short while – but can you go without water for a few days without causing severe and possibly permanent damage or even death? It is even harder on children, the elderly, and persons with health problems.

If your electricity went out would you have a clean water source? What if the available water was contaminated? Do you know what to do if a nuclear reactor in your area has a meltdown?

What if this happens? What if that happens?
Again, “If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.” Are you prepared?

After all the Boy Scouts of America have a whole merit badge dedicated to Emergency Preparedness. The Scout motto is “Be Prepared” Remember Life can come at you pretty fast sometimes, so be prepared for it.
